Illinois Governor Jay Robert Pritzker has said that Illinois should become the first state in the Midwest to take advantage of legalised sports betting in order to capture as much as $136m annually in taxes.

In his 2020 budget book, Governor Pritzker noted the legalisation of sports betting in numerous US states since the repeal of PASPA in 2018, and said that he intends to authorise the activity at various facilities in Illinois, allowing for both in-person and remote wagering via the internet.
