Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has imposed a €280,000 weekly penalty on BlockDance BV for illegally operating in the market.
The penalty relates to the BC.Game and BCGame.lu online gaming websites in the Netherlands, which operate without a local licence.
The KSA had previously ordered the company to exit the market and BlockDance appeared to have complied with the order, but a further investigation by the regulator found that the websites are once again available to players in the Netherlands.
As a result, the regulator has imposed a weekly fine of €280,000 on the company, up to a maximum penalty of €840,000.
The penalty will be halted if BlockDance proves that it has stopped offering its services in the Netherlands within four weeks of receiving the notice.
The KSA commented: “On the sites investigated, it was possible to create a player account, make deposits and participate in the illegal gambling offered. No technical measures were taken on the sites to prevent participation from the Netherlands.
“The Netherlands has a regulated gambling market to better protect players. The Ksa, therefore, takes tough action against illegal supply. With an order subject to penalty, illegal supply is often quickly stopped. Providers can also be fined for the period in which the illegal supply was available.”
