New research commissioned by the regulator of the Irish National Lottery has identified gaps in retailers’ compliance with requirements to prevent underage purchases of lottery products.

Under the country’s National Lottery Act 2013, the sale of National Lottery tickets is prohibited to anyone under 18 years of age, with retailers required to visibly display a mandatory ‘Over 18’ sign in every premises and ask for photographic ID where the customer is not clearly aged 18 years or over.
