The Jockey Club of the United States has launched two online games that combine elements of fantasy sports and social gaming with the excitement of horse racing, as it seeks to replicate the success of free-play online poker sites in attracting new players to poker.

Thoroughbred World, a game focused on the breeding, owning and training aspects of the sport, and Major League Horse Racing, an interactive fantasy sports style game, were both developed as part of a wide-ranging fan development initiative that was recommended in a 2011 economic study of the Thoroughbred industry, which was commissioned by The Jockey Club and conducted by McKinsey & Company.
