An online advert from Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI) after it was ruled to have offensively exploited the current immigrant crisis engulfing Europe to promote the brand.

The ad featured on social media channels, with five sports stars depicted on the side of a lorry - Scottish tennis player Andy Murray; Jamaica-born England footballer Raheem Sterling; Somalia-born Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah; Samoa-born English rugby union professional Manu Tuilagi; and Irish-born England cricketer Eoin Morgan.

It featured the text: “Immigrants jump in the back! (But only if you’re good at sport).”
