Former William Hill chairman Roger Devlin has been appointed as chairman of the UK’s Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB).
Devlin has been appointed to the role for a four-year term by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, and will take up the position on 1 July.
Devlin has extensive experience in sport and gaming, having previously served as chairman of Gamesys, SIS and William Hill, and as an independent director at the Football Association.
He was also co-owner and bred Pyledriver, the winner of the King George and Coronation Cup, and owns horses in training with Anthony Honeyball and William Muir.
Devlin currently serves as chairman of Persimmon, the London-listed house builder, as well as a director of the Sutton Trust, a leading social mobility charity.
The Horserace Betting Levy Board collects a statutory levy from the horseracing business of bookmakers to support the horse racing industry in the United Kingdom.
