Swedish state-owned gaming operator Svenska Spel has brought in ATG board member and former LeoVegas executive Mårten Forste as chief executive of its sports betting and iGaming business.

Forste will take on the role in February and succeeds Fredrik Wastenson, who stepped down last month as CEO of Svenska Spel Sport & Casino.

Forste spent more than ten years at LeoVegas, including as chairman and chief operating officer, and prior to that spent five years at Expekt (now part of LeoVegas).

“I am very pleased to welcome Mårten to Svenska Spel,” said Svenska Spel president and CEO Johnson. “His solid industry experience combined with his expertise in leadership and digital business development will be very valuable to us. We are in a phase of growth and transformation, where Mårten will play a central role in developing our business in sports and casino games with strong brands such as Stryktipset and Oddset.”

Commenting on his appointment, Forste said: “The combination of an extremely strong brand, a leading market position and a clear social commitment makes Svenska Spel a very exciting company. Here there is a unique ability to combine growth, gaming pleasure, care and responsibility – and a long tradition of developing some of the market’s most well-known games.

“I bring with me experience from companies that have gone from challengers to market leaders and have worked hard to drive transformation and strengthen customer focus. I look forward to further developing Sport & Casino’s business together with the team.”

Forste has stepped down from ATG’s board of directors in order to take up the CEO role at Svenska Spel, having served as a member of the Board since May 2025.

“I thank Mårten for his efforts on ATG’s board,” said ATG chairman Peter Norman. “Although the period was short, Mårten has contributed with valuable perspectives, and we wish him the best of luck in his new role. This is Mårten’s personal career decision and the Board’s work continues as usual.”

ATG’s Nomination Committee is now handling the process of proposing a new Board member.
