Betting operator pferdewetten.de has appointed former Merkur executive Christian Gruber as chief executive officer.

Gruber will take over as CEO in March and joins the German betting operator from Merkur Bets, where he has served as chief operating officer since February 2025.

His previous industry experience includes senior roles at Stadtcasino Baden, William Hill and Tipico.

Gruber will be tasked with expanding pferdewetten’s retail and online sports betting operations, as well as the company’s marketing and communications, and human resources.

He takes over as CEO of pferdewetten from Pierre Hofer, who will continue to serve on the company’s management board and focus on the horse race betting segment and investor relations.

Shares in Pferdewetten de AG (FRA:EMH) were trading 0.38 per cent higher at €2.63 per share in Frankfurt Thursday.
