London-listed gaming operator and supplier Playtech has appointed two new independent non-executive directors to its board.

Playtech has appointed Anna Massion and John Krumins to its board with immediate effect, having consulted with activist investor SpringOwl Asset Management on the appointments.

“The company worked with institutional shareholders including SpringOwl to identify candidates that would strengthen the corporate governance profile of the group and deliver the oversight and strategic counsel required for a global organisation such as Playtech,” the company said, adding that SpringOwl had fully endorsed both candidates.

Massion has over 15 years’ experience in investment banking and has been an investor in the gambling sector across the UK, US and Europe. She has previously advised Playtech management and currently serves at PAR Capital Management, which has over $5bn in assets under management.

Krumins brings over 20 years' experience in corporate finance, technology and complex project management to the Playtech board, having served at JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank and Société Générale. He is currently chairman of Wavex Technology, which provides IT services support and business service management products to SMEs.

Krumins also posses regulatory experience from his previous role as a panel member of the UK's Competition and Markets Authority from 2013 to 2018.

“I am delighted to have identified two candidates of the calibre of Anna and John and warmly welcome them to the Playtech board,” said Playtech chair Alan Jackson. “John's extensive board-level experience, coupled with Anna's deep sector knowledge, will allow the board to support Playtech's role as the leading gambling technology company in regulated markets.

“Our industries continue to develop at pace, and today's appointments mark another step forward in the evolution of the Playtech board,” Jackson added. “I will be working closely with everyone involved in Playtech to get the new board members up to speed as we continue to plan for the future.”

SpringOwl Asset Management CEO Jason Ader commented: “We are pleased Anna and John have been appointed to the board. We have worked closely and constructively with Playtech’s Board and institutional shareholders to identify these two outstanding candidates.

"Anna and John’s wealth of experience and expertise will be invaluable in providing the necessary oversight and counsel to help shape the Company’s strategic direction.”
