Tipico becomes first private operator to launch under the licensing framework established by Schleswig-Holstein in September 2024

Tipico has become the first private operator to launch a full online casino offering in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The launch comes 18 months after the operator secured an online casino licence in the state, with the new platform featuring classic table games such as roulette, blackjack and baccarat.

“With this launch, Tipico reinforces its ambition to play a leading role in building a safe, regulated and sustainable gambling market in Germany,” said the operator.

While online slot games and sports betting are regulated at the national level in Germany by the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL), responsibility for other online casino games lies with individual federal states.

Schleswig-Holstein introduced its licensing framework in September 2024 to allow private operators to offer fully regulated online casino products, with only four commercial operators granted licences at the time – Tipico, BlueBet Operations (a Novomatic company), Cashpoint Malta (a Gauselmann company) and Skill-on-Net.

Tipico said that player protection is at the heart of the new offering, with key safeguards including mandatory identity verification, integration with the OASIS state-wide exclusion system, connection to the LUGAS cross-state monitoring system – which manages deposit limits – and continuous monitoring of player behaviour.

“Together, these measures help identify potential risks early and ensure a safe and responsible gaming environment,” said Tipico.

Tipico officially launched its German online slots offering in October 2022 after being among the first ten operators to receive a federal licence from the GGL.

Tipico is currently in the process of being acquired by France’s Banijay Group.
