Winner: Caesars Interactive
Runner-up: DoubleDown Interactive (IGTi)

Caesars Interactive has achieved nothing less than becoming the world’s biggest online casino. It was one of the first gambling operators to identify the potential of social casino when it acquired a stake in Playtika back in 2011. Since then it has gone from strength to strength, acquiring companies and customers at such a rate that it has left the competition standing.

Playtika has refused to stand still. It continued to expand by acquiring growing businesses to complement its offering, branching out into bingo with the purchase of Bingo Blitz developer Buffalo Studios, and into poker with Electronic Arts’ World Series of Poker app. It then acquired House of Fun operator Pacific Interactive in January 2014, before consolidating all products under the Playtika brand.

This has proved wildly successful. During the first nine months of 2014, Caesars Interactive net revenue leapt 95 per cent to $430.4m. This is largely due to the acquisition of Pacific Interactive but it has been supported by strong growth from Slotomania, Bingo Bash and the WSOP game.

The operator attracts a total of 5.7m daily active users, 18.6m monthly active users and 16.8m monthly unique users across all products. There is no other casino on the planet that can rival those numbers.

Caesars Interactive chief executive Mitch Garber had the vision to realise a regulated US online gambling market was a long way off. He jumped at the first opportunity to develop an online casino in the operator’s home market. Not only did Garber have the vision, he plotted the strategy and pulled it off with aplomb. In doing so, it has leapt ahead of rivals such as DoubleDown Interactive and Zynga. Social casino is big business and Caesars Interactive is its biggest business.
