Intralot Strengthens Presence in Latin America and Italy

5th March 2010 8:36 am GMT

Intralot's Brazilian subsidiary, Intralot do Brasil, has won an international tender to operate lottery games in Minas Gerais, the second most populous state in Brazil, under which it will launch a fast Keno type game, with additional numerical games to follow through an online network of 2,500 points of sale. Meanwhile Intralot has also this week agreed a deal to become a technology partner with Sisal S.p.A, the leading Italian land-based and online gaming company.

Under the agreement with Minas Gerais, which runs for an initial term of six years with a six year extension option, Intralot said that the entire network would be established in the state within a period of two years from the start-up of the project.

The gaming portfolio is expected to expand further in the course of the operations, with Intralot having complete operation of the project, utilising existing infrastructure already established in the country.

"We are very pleased to start this cooperation with Intralot to offer to the citizens of Minas Gerais a new portfolio of lottery games," said Ernani Campos Porto, Managing Director of Minas Gerais. "Through this cooperation we will be able to offer exciting games and raise funding for the benefit of the State and its people."

Minas Gerais is one of 26 states within Brazil, with the second highest population of 20 million inhabitants, the second richest and the fourth largest by area. Its share of the Brazilian economy is nearly 9%, while its GDP per capita amounts to $4,500.

"Our new agreement in Minas Gerais has increased further our strong position in the Latin American region and particularly in the promising Brazilian market," said Constantinos Antonopoulos, CEO of Intralot. "Together with the State Lottery of Minas Gerais we will work hard to offer exciting games that will attract the players, increase the lottery sales and consequently the amounts distributed to the players."

Greece's Intralot also announced this week that it had secured a contract to provide Sisal S.p.A, the leading Italian land-based and online gaming company, with 15,000 lottery terminals and associated services for its extended sales network throughout Italy.

"We are very satisfied with our new contract with Sisal, one of the leading gaming operators in the highly competitive Italian market," said Antonopoulos. "The fact that we have been selected to equip such a large scale retail network ratifies our dedication to technological excellence. We are determined to honour Sisal's confidence and provide them with our cutting-edge products and services, while at the same time we are looking forward to expanding our cooperation in the gaming sector."

One of the leading gaming operators in the Italian market, Sisal operates two of the most popular games in Italy; SuperEnalotto with turnover reaching €3.3 billion for 2009 and Win for Life with turnover of € 579 million since its launch last September. Sisal currently has a 12.3% share of the Italian gaming market, with total sales of €9.4 billion last year.
