The government of Sweden has appointed Peter Knutsson as director general of the Swedish Gambling Authority for a six-year term.

Knutsson assumes leadership of gambling regulator Spelinspektionen on 17 August after serving as Sweden’s Advertising Ombudsman since August 2024.

He has also previously served at the Ministry of Finance, the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, and the European Commission.

Knutsson replaces Johan Röhr, who stepped in as acting director general of Spelinspektionen following the departure of former director general Camilla Rosenberg.

Rosenberg left the gambling authority in November 2025 to head up the Swedish Real Estate Agents’ Inspectorate (Fastighetsmäklarinspektionen).

Niklas Wykman, Minister of Financial Markets, said: “The Swedish gambling market should be characterised by high security and strong consumer protection, and the Swedish Gambling Authority has a major responsibility in this.

“I am pleased that Peter Knutsson, with his deep knowledge of consumer issues, has accepted the role of Director General.”

Spelinspektionen chairwoman Madelaine Tunudd added: “With the solid experience Peter Knutsson has from, among other things, the Ministry of Finance, consumer affairs and most recently the Advertising Ombudsman, this will be very good for the authority.”

Knutsson’s term as director general of Spelinspektionen will end on 31 August 2032.
