Singapore’s Gambling Regulatory Authority names new chairman to replace Tan Tee How

Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs has named Hoong Wee Teck as the new chairman of the country’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA).

Hoong currently serves as deputy chairman for the gambling regulator and succeeds Tan Tee How, who has been chairman since 2018.

Hoong is the former Commissioner of Police, with 38 years of distinguished service in the Singapore Police Force, including 11 years as Commissioner.

Under Tan’s leadership, the GRA underwent a strategic transformation from a casino regulator to national regulator for all forms of gambling in Singapore.

“In this journey, Mr. Tan ably steered GRA’s priorities and development, whilst maintaining strong governance oversight,” said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). “His leadership has helped GRA to effectively fulfil its responsibilities of keeping gambling in Singapore free from criminal influence, and minimising its harms to Singapore society.

“MHA would like to thank Mr Tan for his service and contributions to GRA, and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”

The GRA regulates all forms of gambling in Singapore, and replaced the Casino Regulatory Authority (Casinos), Gambling Regulatory Unit of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Online Gaming), and Singapore Totalisator Board (Singapore Pools) in 2022.

Last year, gaming revenue at Singapore’s two integrated resorts grew by 24 per cent to S$7.05 billion (€4.71 billion), comprising S$5.45 billion from Las Vegas Sands-owned Marina Bay Sands and $1.60 billion from Genting-owned Resorts World Sentosa.
