Daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings is launching The Drop Zone, a new league-based fantasy football game where players battle to secure promotion and avoid relegation.

Designed as a fast paced version of the English Premier League, The Drop Zone is comprised of twenty players who compete to remain in the division.

Each week the top 17 players advance to the following round of matches, with the top performers awarded cash prizes and Premier League-themed rewards. The bottom three are 'relegated' and replaced by three other qualifiers.

Scores are reset every week and after ten rounds of matches, with the players that have avoided relegation for the longest period awarded a bonus prize.

The league will be populated through a series of ongoing qualifiers that kicked off last weekend to coincide with the beginning of the 2017-18 Premier League season.

Players must enter and win a qualifier to secure a place in the Drop Zone, with the qualifying matches for the initial league to continue for a further two weeks.

"We are expecting this Premier League season to have more twists and turns than ever before and as fantasy sports continues to grow in the UK, DraftKings is excited to launch The Drop Zone contest to add to the excitement and fan experience," DraftKings chief international officer Jeffrey Haas explained.
