UEFA unveils tougher sanctions as more fixing charges arise

European football’s governing body UEFA has announced new sanctions relating to betting and match-fixing to enable the issue to be tackled more effectively at both national and international levels. The move was made as news broke of further match-fixing allegations in Italian football which has implicated 33 players and officials associated with Bari during 2008 and 2009, while UEFA yesterday opened disciplinary proceedings against Turkish football clubs Besiktas and Fenerbahce in relation to match-fixing.Announcing the [...]
