Sports Ministers from around the world have agreed a declaration on sport with one of the main aims being to address betting fraud and the fight against the manipulation of sporting competitions.

The Declaration of Berlin, as it has been termed in recognition of the location of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) conference hosted by the German Government, lists a raft of global ministerial conclusions and commitments on the subject.

The two-day event, attended by representatives from over 130 countries, determined that “the manipulation of sport competitions combined with betting offers large scale business opportunities” for criminals and that due to its cross-border nature this required “a coordinated global response.”
