Britain’s Gambling Commission has charged 15 people in relation to gambling on the outcome of the 2024 general election.

Those charged include the former Conservative member of parliament Craig Williams, who will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 13 June to face charges of using confidential information to cheat at betting.

The 15 individuals are accused of using advance knowledge of the proposed election date to gain an unfair advantage in betting markets, which is a criminal offence under Section 42 of the Gambling Act 2005.

The Gambling Commission said Monday that it is committed to upholding the law and will continue to take robust action against illegal betting practices, adding that it cannot provide any further comment due to the ongoing criminal case.
