The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has issued a CA$151,000 fine to casino operator Great Canadian Entertainment for allegedly failing to prevent minors from accessing gambling at three of its Toronto-based casinos.

The fine followed an investigation by the regulator, which reviewed four separate incidents in which minors allegedly gained access to the casino floors, some of whom were able to participate in underage gambling.

These incidents occurred at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, Casino Ajax and Pickering Casino Resort.

AGCO said that this action underscored its commitment to protecting young and other vulnerable people.

“Ontario casino operators have an obligation to ensure minors are not able to access casino floors or activities such as slot machines or table games,” said Dr. Karin Schnarr, chief executive of AGCO. “The AGCO will continue to monitor and hold all casino operators accountable for fulfilling this important role.”

Great Canadian Entertainment has the right to appeal the fine to the Licence Appeal Tribunal.

It marks the second fine to be issued to Great Canadian Entertainment in less than a month, after the operator was fined CA$120,000 for failing to detect a cheating scheme involving two casino dealers in April.
