Boyd Gaming has disclosed a cybersecurity incident which saw hackers access internal IT systems and delete employee data.

The operator said that an unauthorised third party accessed its internal IT systems and removed information about its employees, as well as a limited number of other individuals.

Affected individuals have been contacted by Boyd and there has been no impact on any of its properties or business operations.

Upon discovering the incident, the operator took steps to respond to the incident with the help of external cybersecurity experts and in cooperation with federal law enforcement authorities.

Boyd Gaming said that the breach is not expected to have a negative material impact on its financial condition or results of operations.

The New York-listed company added that it has comprehensive security insurance coverage to cover the costs associated with incident response and forensic investigations, as well as business interruptions, legal actions and regulatory fines, subject to policy limits and deductibles.

Shares in Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE:BYD) closed 0.81 per cent lower at $84.41 per share in New York Wednesday.
