The Canadian provincial state of Quebec has moved forward with plans for a crackdown on illegal online gaming operators after legislation was introduced late last week which would order internet service providers to block unlicensed websites.

The bill was tabled last Thursday during the 41st Legislature by Quebec Finance Minister Carlos Leitão to implement certain provisions of the Budget Speech announced earlier this year in March.

It would amend the country’s Consumer Protection Act in order to monitor online gambling, and require internet service providers to block access to illegal gambling sites entered on a list drawn up by the Société des loteries du Québec.
