The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has backed operator Unibet in its fight against Hungarian authorities, ruling that the country’s gambling legislation constitutes a restriction of the principle of freedom to provide services.
Following an Opinion in April, the CJEU delivered its judgment Thursday in favour of Unibet, stating that Hungary’s legislation on the authorisation of online games of chance is not compatible with EU law, as enshrined by Article 56 TFEU.
