Lawmakers in Virginia will be given a third opportunity to legalise online lottery sales next year through a bill that would also allow up to five sports betting permits to be issued.

The bill would repeal the prohibition on online lottery sales and direct the Virginia Lottery to regulate sports betting. It would also establish a state self-exclusion programme to allow players to exclude themselves from participating in the lottery or sports betting.
