Legal & Regulatory News

Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance and build cooperation with the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).

The aim of the MoU is to support closer working between the two regulators and to support the sharing of best practice on areas including regulatory policies and procedures.

“This is an important agreement for us,” said Spelinspektionen director general Camilla Rosenberg. “We have common interest in many areas. By opening the communication channels between the authorities we become stronger in our supervisory activities. This is the beginning of a broad and long-term cooperation.”

The agreement with the UKGC adds to Spelinspektionen’s existing MoUs with the likes of the Malta Gaming Authority and Gibraltar Gambling Division.

“We have excellent relations with other gambling regulators from across the world and our new link up with the Swedish Gambling Authority will give more opportunities to share good practice on a whole host of regulatory issues, cooperate closely and take shared action where appropriate,” said UKGC chief executive Neil McArthur. “We look forward to working with colleagues in Sweden over the coming months and years.”
