Stanleybet appeal sees OPAP question referred to ECJ

Stanleybet’s long-running challenge to Greece’s restrictive sports betting law took a step forward Friday after the Greek Council of State referred the OPAP monopoly on offline sports betting to the European Court of Justice (ECJ).

In what Stanleybet described as a landmark ruling, the Greek Council of State (CoS), the country’s highest court, called into question the legality of the Greek monopoly held by OPAP, a private, for-profit company listed on the Athens Stock Exchange.
