The Spanish autonomous region of Galicia has become the latest region to authorise retail and online sports betting.
Galicia, Spain’s fifth largest region with a population of approximately 2.8m, first proposed to regulate sports betting in 1985 but did not draft specific regulations for the activity until now. It notified the new draft regulations to the European Commission on November 11th and is subject to a standstill period ending February 13th 2012.
