X fined in Italy for breach of gambling advertising rules

Italian media regulator AGCOM has imposed a fine of €1.35 million on messaging platform X for gambling advertising violations.
The fine was imposed on X last week and was announced by the Italian regulator on 12 March.
The fine relates to nine violations, one for each ‘Blue Tick’ account promoting content of an advertising nature related to gambling and betting activities.
The penalty for X follows the recent fines imposed on Youtube (€1.2m) Google (€2.25m), Meta (€6.6m) and Twitch (€0.9m) for similar offences.
The €1.35 million fine is for violation of Italy’s ban on gambling advertising under Article 9 of the Diginity Decree.
