South Africa’s National Lotteries Commission (NLC) has reassured players that the National Lottery will continue to operate as normal despite a court ruling last week which highlighted several issues with the licensing tender won by IGT-powered Ithuba Holdings.

Ithuba began operating the South African National Lottery in June after winning a competitive bidding process last October against the previous operator Gidani and two other bidders.

Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies named Ithuba as the preferred applicant with whom he would first negotiate the licence, and Gidani as reserve applicant in case negotiations with Ithuba failed.
