A press ad by Paddy Power featuring boxer Floyd Mayweather and the headline ‘always bet on black’ has been banned by the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for being "likely to cause serious offence on the grounds of race".

The press ad was seen in the August 23rd edition of the Evening Standard and the following day’s edition of the Metro, and included additional text which stated: "We’ve paid out early on a Mayweather victory because we checked, and only one of them is a boxer.”

Nine complainants challenged whether the ad was likely to cause serious or widespread offence on the basis that the headline contained an obvious reference to Mayweather's race.
