Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has appointed Carol Verheij as vice chair to succeed Bernadette van Buchem.

Verheij is currently secretary-director of the Dutch Safety Board and will take office as a new member of the KSA’s Board of Directors on 1 March.

She previously served as general director of Justis and acting general director of the Child Protection Council, both part of the Ministry of Justice and Security.

“With Carol, an experienced public administrator is joining our Board of Directors,” said KSA chairman Michel Groothuizen. “In addition to her role as vice-chair of the Board of Directors, she will focus primarily on issues related to legal frameworks, governance, integrity, and compliance.

“These are topics that are constantly evolving within the dynamic field of the Netherlands Gambling Authority. With her appointment, the Netherlands Gambling Authority is further developing a future-proof organizational structure that optimally supports its ambitions and strategy.”

Commenting on her appointment, Verheij said: “I am very much looking forward to dedicating my energy, knowledge, and experience to the Netherlands Gambling Authority. The Netherlands Gambling Authority has an important social responsibility: ensuring that people, especially young people, can gamble safely.

“The online gambling market, which is by definition cross-border, has added an unprecedented dimension to this responsibility. Together with my colleagues at the Netherlands Gambling Authority and all other partners, I will make a positive impact on the reliability and security of the gambling market.”
