Austrian gaming giant NOVOMATIC has appointed Friedrich Stickler, the former European Lotteries (EL) association president and Austrian Lotteries veteran, as a consultant to help grow its lottery technology and services division.
Stickler began his consultancy work on July 1st, and will use his decades of expertise and experience to help develop his employer’s business in the lottery sector, NOVOMATIC said.
“Friedrich Stickler is an internationally recognized expert, who will make valuable contributions, particularly in our newest segment of lottery technology and lottery services,” NOVOMATIC chairman and chief executive Harald Neumann said. “Stickler will support, among other things, NOVOMATIC Lottery Solutions GmbH in the fields of product development, business development and employee training.”
NOVOMATIC will also be able to use Stickler’s knowledge of Österreichische Lotterien (Austrian Lotteries) parent company Casinos Austria. The corporation is working on acquiring a majority stake in the business in partnership with Czech lottery operator Sazka.
Stickler stepped down as president of Österreichische Lotterien after more than 40 years with the company in June last year, having originally joined Casinos Austria as a cruise ship croupier in 1969. He was responsible for launching the Austrian national lottery in 1985, with the division now the main source of revenue for Österreichische Lotterien.
He also served as president of the European Lotteries Association for six years, from 2009 to 2015, when he was replaced by Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin's Hansjörg Höltkemeier.
“I am delighted to be joining the most innovative and successful gaming group in Europe,” Stickler said of his new role. “NOVOMATIC Lottery Solutions is currently the most modern and progressive player in the lottery sector, which is at the beginning of a promising development phase. I am very proud to be able to contribute to the success here.”
