The Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) has belatedly announced the appointment of seven new commissioners to Britain’s Gambling Commission.

Charles Counsell, Helen Dodds, Sheree Howard and Claudia Mortimore have been appointed for terms of five years, while Lloydette Bai-Marrow, Helen Philips and David Rossington have been appointed for terms of four years.

All of the new commissioners, none of whom have any industry experience, began their new roles on 11 September.

Counsell previously served as chief executive of the Pensions Regulator and Dodds is an international lawyer and a board member of the Human Tissue Authority.

Howard is currently the executive director of Risk and Compliance Oversight at the Financial Conduct Authority and Mortimore specialises in criminal law, having prosecuted money-laundering offences for the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office.

Bai-Marrow is an anti-corruption expert and economic crime lawyer and the founding partner of Parametric Global Consulting, an economic crime investigations consultancy.

Philips currently serves as chair of NHS Professionals, a private company providing temporary staff to the NHS. She also chairs the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Rossington is a former senior civil servant who has worked for the DCMS as finance director and acting director general.

Each will receive an annual remuneration of £14,160.
