SkyCity Entertainment Group has introduced mandatory card play across its venues in New Zealand to enhance responsible gambling.

The Show by SkyCity card will be required for both machine and table game play, verifying the customer’s identity and provide new safeguards for responsible gaming.

Customers can sign up for the card either in person or online and will have to produce a legal form of photo ID to sign up.

The card will monitor gameplay patterns and encourage safer gaming behaviours, with key features including mandatory breaks and session, daily and weekly limits.

The Show card will also give players the option to join SkyCity’s loyalty program.

The rollout of the card began at SkyCity’s Queenstown and Hamilton venues and was completed in Auckland earlier this week.

“Carded play gives us the tools to better support our customers. We can make earlier interventions where needed, and ensure gaming remains a safe and enjoyable experience,” said SkyCity chief operating officer Callum Mallett. “We’re proud to lead the industry in building a safer, more sustainable future for gaming in Aotearoa New Zealand.”

“Our players all play differently, across different products. Our previous approach supported safe play within an anonymous system, but Carded Play takes that commitment further. It allows us to identify patterns of concern earlier and encourage breaks before harm occurs, giving us better tools to support our customers in real time.”
