Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has confirmed plans to introduce a new licensing option for operators of skill-based gaming machines.

The regulator said that the new licensing option follows requests from skill games operators who are seeking a separate, simplified licensing process to the one available for gaming machine operators.

The skill games operating licence will have a shorter substantive review process and can be issued more quickly than normal gaming machine licences.

Currently, the KSA issues only one type of operating licence for gaming machines, which applies to all gaming machines in gaming halls and hospitality venues.

The regulator defines skill-based gaming machines as a gaming machine that does not pay out prizes except for extra or longer games, and where the game’s progression depends entirely, or nearly entirely, on the player’s skill.

The KSA will provide more information on the application procedure for the new licence in due course.
