Targeting Australia and the Asia Pacific region as the next major growth areas for mobile sports betting, Swedish mobile gaming developer Mobenga has signed a contract to provide full mobile services to the state-owned betting operator Tote Tasmania.

Mobenga will supply Tote Tasmania with a mobile horseracing and sports betting product due for launch in 2010, featuring downloadable JAVA applications and mobile Internet and iPhone specific versions.

The mobile service will include popular functions such as ‘speed betting’ and ‘next race to jump’ with relevant real-time content readily available with form guides, tips and scratchings accessible to customers.

“This is a very exciting deal for Mobenga as we continue our strategy to serve operators all over the world,” said Christian Rajter, CEO of Mobenga. “Tote Tasmania is an impressive and well-reputed company with a clear strategy that will enable them to meet the requirements of a new generation of customers who will want to bet with them at any time and from any place.”

Mobenga will launch the new mobile sports betting product following a partnership with Agility Interactive, a provider of advanced technologies for media, gaming and wagering markets, who also act as internet consultants for Tote Tasmania’s Interactive Business Unit.

“Together with Agility Interactive we believe that Australia and the Asia Pacific region offers the next major growth area for cutting edge and innovative mobile products,” said Rajter. “We are excited to work together with Agility Interactive to target the Australasian market. They have an impressive knowledge and network in this geography and combined with our experience and expertise we will have a very strong foundation for our offering.”

Tote Tasmania CEO Craig Coleman said that Mobenga had been chosen following a thorough evaluation process by Agility Interactive.

“We see the mobile channel as key to delivering our customers’ expectations for access for an ‘ever-connected’ generation of punters,” said Coleman.

Agility Interactive’s Chief Operating Officer, Dennis Verrios, added: “Agility has had a long history of dealing with mobile products and understand that the secure and timely transactional and intense data needs of wagering make it imperative to find a product suite that was ‘built for purpose’. We are very excited to collaborate with Mobenga and intend to roll their platform out across Asia Pacific.”
