British bookmaker Betfred will withdraw from Virginia’s regulated online sports betting market later this month.

Betfred will close its operations in the state on October 21, having ceased news player registrations, deposits and bets on October 1.

Players can continue to withdraw funds from their account until 10pm ET on October 21, after which time any remaining funds will be returned via check to the address registered at the time of account creation.

Betfred’s exit from Virginia follows the company’s recent exit from Maryland, Ohio and Arizona.

In a statement on its Virginia-facing website, the operator said: “We are working closely with regulators to ensure this process is handled securely, correctly and done in accordance with all state regulations and guidelines. We strive to meet player and regulatory needs and expectations.

The exit from Virginia leaves the operator live in just two online sports betting states, Iowa and Pennsylvania. Betfred also has retail operations in Nevada and Washington.
