iGaming operator PlayStar has appointed Fredrik Liljewall as interim CEO following the departure of Peter Ekmark after nearly two years in the role.

Ekmark took over as CEO from Per Hellberg in September 2023, and has served on the company’s board since September 2022.

He will be replaced on an interim basis by Fredrik Liljewall, who has an extensive career in investment banking and private investments, and will also serve on the PlayStar board.

Ekmark will remain with the operator as part of its recently established advisory board.

In a statement, PlayStar said that the change in leadership was done to “re-focus the organisation with renewed energy and to make a decisive final push toward profitability.”

“Peter has been instrumental in PlayStar’s success and will continue to be involved with the company. He will join our newly formed advisory board, ensuring continuity while allowing us to benefit from his deep industry expertise,” said PlayStar.
