New Lotto has created 56 millionaires since launching in June, while Powerball has paid out more than £13.8 million in just over a month
The UK National Lottery has revealed that the launch of its new Lotto and Powerball games have delivered some of the biggest prize opportunities ever seen by players in the United Kingdom.
Lottery operator Allwyn launched the new Lotto game format on 10 June, creating more millionaires than ever before.
In just over two months, 56 players have already become millionaires, compared to 35 during the same period last year. Of these, 32 millionaires were made in Round 2 of the new two-round format.
In July, the lottery made history by becoming the first lottery outside the United States to launch Powerball.
UK players entered the game at a landmark moment, with Powerball in the midst of a dramatic 43-draw rollover run that culminated in a $1.04 billion jackpot win in Illinois earlier this month.
The Powerball jackpot has now started growing again and currently sits at an estimated £49 million for today’s draw.
Since launching in the UK on 21 July, Powerball has already created almost 1 million winners (997,038) across its prize tiers, with prizes on the game starting at £8, and paid out over £13.8 million in prizes.
The game is also attracting new audiences to the lottery, with around 40,000 players trying National Lottery games for the first time through Powerball. More than 2.6 million players have taken part in the new offering since launch, with over half returning to play multiple draws.
“With New Lotto delivering more winners than ever before and Powerball giving UK players access to one of the world’s biggest rolling jackpot games, this summer has marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for The National Lottery, offering players more opportunities to win and more chances to dream big in the months ahead,” said Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery.
“And that’s not to mention the top prize winners made on our other National Lottery draw games. Since the beginning of June, we have also made five winners of £10K a month for 30 years on Set For Life and six winners of £500K on Thunderball.”
