Additional six months will give the casino time to complete ongoing reform initiatives
Star Entertainment Group’s Queensland casino will continue to operate under a deferred licence suspension following the latest review of its remediation efforts.
Queensland Attorney General Deb Frecklington announced the outcome of the latest review of The Star Gold Coast’s casino licence on Thursday, stating that although the casino has made significant progress across its key remediation and reform initiatives, several priority remediation matters remain in progress.
As a result, the deferred licence suspension has been extended for a further six months until the end of March 2027, with Nicholas Weeks’s appointment as special manager of the casino extended until the same date.
“We have continued to set clear expectations for The Star to ensure the utmost integrity of Queensland’s casino operations,” said Frecklington. “Those expectations remain unchanged, and while I acknowledge the work of The Star to date, this extension will allow The Star to further demonstrate its delivery on key remediation commitments under the agreement.
“Queenslanders can have full confidence that we will take immediate action if The Star fails to deliver on its obligations. I thank Mr Weeks for his comprehensive report and continued independent oversight of The Star’s progress towards fulfilling its remediation plan.”
Weeks has served as the independent special manager of The Star Gold Coast since December 2022.
Shares in Star Entertainment Group (ASX:SGR) closed 3.33 per cent lower at A$0.15 per share in Sydney Thursday.
