Record jackpots boost Oregon Lottery in FY2023

21st November 2023 9:23 am GMT

The Oregon Lottery will return nearly $900 million in profit to the state for the 2023 fiscal year ended 30 June.

This marks a slight decline from the previous year due to an increase in operating costs, while unclaimed prizes of $9 million will also go back to the state to directly benefit state parks and natural habitats, public schools, veteran services, outdoor school, and economic development.

Ahead of the release of its final audited results, the lottery said that it benefited from a record performance from jackpot games, with eight players taking home prizes worth $1 million or more.

“Oregon Lottery’s success allows us to support programs that help our state thrive,” said Oregon Lottery director Mike Wells. “We’re focused on running our operations as efficiently as possible to benefit the public programs Oregonians care about.”

The strong performance during the year also benefited the state’s 3,800 lottery retailers, which collectively earned more than $310 million during the year.

Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on 25 April 1985, it has earned nearly $15.5 billion for the state.
