PokerStars has resurrected its free-to-play app PokerStars Play, with the new iteration currently being released through a phased roll-out.

PokerStars Play offers a range of poker variants, including Texas Hold'em, Spin and Go and Omaha, alongside casino style slots.

It allows users to compete against poker pros, collect trophies and climb weekly leaderboards, as well as entering fast-paced tournaments.

It is currently only available in the US and Australia for iOS and Android devices, before being rolled out into other territories over the next twelve months.

"PokerStars Play is the next phase in our progress toward being a leader in social casino," PokerStars director of social gaming Lloyd Melnick said. "PokerStars Play is a unique product, taking the best of real money gaming and merging it with the features players expect from mobile games."

PokerStars Play originally went live in 2013 but failed to attract a large audience and was replaced by the more successful Jackpot Poker app in December 2015.

Melnick said that the new PokerStars Play app incorporates the lessons learned from building Jackpot Poker, which he describes as "probably the best social poker game on the market".

"We are very excited to launch PokerStars Play as it represents a great opportunity for players of social poker products to now play with and against the best from the poker leaders," he said.
