The Supreme Court of India issued a ruling Thursday which paves the way for the majority of the country's states to prohibit online lottery ticket sales.
The ruling concerns the south Indian state of Kerala, where paper lotteries are authorised but online lotteries are prohibited.
Despite the ban, the state plays host to thousands of online lottery terminals operated by companies authorised in the states of Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland, where online lotteries are permissible.
