A footballer has been cleared of charges of match-fixing by a Swedish court following an investigation into an alleged incident that took place in the country’s second-highest football league, the Superettan.

The unnamed 23 year-old player stood accused of approaching three players for the IFK Värnamo team, allegedly asking them to fix the result of a match against Göteborgs Atlet- och Idrottssällskap (GAIS) on September 13th last year.

The case was the first match-fixing investigation to be brought to trial in Sweden.
