Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery issued a new opinion Wednesday, ruling that fantasy sports contests constitutes illegal gambling under state law.
The opinion follows a request by House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh (D-Ripley), and comes as a bill to protect fantasy sports and install industry-wide consumer protections recently passed the state Senate.
