The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has signed a partnership with sports data provider Genius Sports to enhance its ability to identify and investigate irregular betting patterns in real-time.

The agreement will see Genius Sports develop an automated price monitoring system for the BHA via its proprietary SportIM platform.

The system will monitor live betting prices, industry averages, and odds fluctuations from all major bookmakers and will also assist with sending real-time alerts to on-course stewards via Genius Sports’ API platform.

The BHA hopes that the deal will increase the efficiency of race day integrity monitoring at the 1,500 annual fixtures across the British racing calendar.

“The ability to monitor all modern betting platforms and markets in real-time has been an important part of our toolkit for some time,” said Robin Mounsey, spokesman for the BHA. “It forms an essential piece of the complex integrity jigsaw and British Racing has led the way in its use for safeguarding betting integrity for some time.

“In order to ensure that the BHA remains at the forefront of integrity monitoring it is appropriate that we ensure the systems which we use are intelligent, agile and efficient. We look forward to working with Genius Sports to develop our capability in this essential area.”

Steven Burton, director of integrity, governance and sports partnerships at Genius Sports, said that the company was delighted to partner with the BHA.

“British horseracing is amongst the most popular in the world and this success is built upon the principles of fairness and integrity. We are looking forward to providing our specialist solutions and playing our part in ensuring that the integrity of British horseracing is upheld.’’

Through its SportIM platform, Genius Sports helps governing bodies such as the English Premier League and Major League Baseball, prevent and manage integrity concerns associated with betting-related corruption and match-fixing.
