The American Gaming Association (AGA) has gone against the consensus of the US sports leagues by urging Congress to leave sports betting regulations to state governments.

In an open letter to federal lawmakers, AGA chief executive Geoff Freeman said that federal sports betting regulation, as demanded by the National Basketball Association and National Football League, would be "unwise, unnecessary and out of step with public sentiment".
