Yggdrasil fined in Sweden for providing games to unlicensed operator
25th March 2024 9:51 am GMTSwedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has issued a warning and a SEK300,000 penalty fee to Yggdrasil for providing gaming software to an unlicensed operator in Sweden.
On 16 January, the regulator checked a number of websites which were prohibited from operating in Sweden and found that Yggdrasil was providing games to an operator banned by Spelinspektionen in October 2021.
The supplier said that the provision of its gaming software to the operator was due to a breach of contract between a reseller and Yggdrasil, and that all games were removed by 23 January.
Spelinspektionen noted that while Yggdrasil had cooperated in the case, the “mitigating circumstances do not outweigh the seriousness of the violation in such a way that it can be considered minor or excusable.”
Assessing that the violation was serious, the regulator said that one warning was considered sufficient intervention, with Yggdrasil also issued with a SEK300,000 (approx €26,000) penalty.
