The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Harp Media and Hove Media, jointly known as Bovada.

The letter accuses Bovada of operating an illegal sports betting, horse race betting and gambling website in the state.

The Attorney General’s Office also accuses Bovada of violating state laws by portraying itself to the Commonwealth’s residents as a “USA-based” operator and the “face of the industry”, which according to the letter induces residents to play at the illegal operator.

The Attorney General’s Office has demanded that Bovada immediately ceases all operations in the state and refund all users, or face legal action and civil penalties.

Massachusetts becomes the latest state to issue a cease-and-desist letter to Bovada, with the operator now listing 15 jurisdictions in the United States as markets in which it will not accept customers.
