The lottery of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Westdeutsche Lotterie (WestLotto), has launched an investigation into claims that a consultant employed by the company to provide advice to lottery winners personally benefited from a relationship with a private bank.

German media has reported that the consultant, employed to advise jackpot winners on how to spend their money, took a fee for directing a player to deposit his winnings with the private investment bank Merck Finck & Co. The individual then made high risk investments in real estate, losing a large portion of his winnings.
