Free TV Australia, the industry body for Australia's commercial free-to-air television licencees, has begun a consultation on provisions to ban gambling advertising in live sport.

The new restrictions on gambling commercials and the promotion of odds in live sport are drafted for inclusion in the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice, and have come about following discussions between the industry body and government.

It follows similar provisions proposed earlier this month by Commercial Radio Australia, the industry body for commercial radio broadcasters in Australia, to ban daytime radio gambling ads.
